Vallorcine: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The Vallon de Bérard nature reserve in Vallorcine consists predominantly of alpine and nival zones and contains small relict glaciers. It is a former glacial cirque with four hanging glaciers; a diverse flora grows on crystalline blocks and scree slopes.

Routes and Activities

The Balme area can be reached from Vallorcine and is suitable for mountain biking, hiking and skiing. Since 2004, Vallorcine has been connected to the Balme ski area by a gondola lift.

The Via Ferrata de la cascade de Bérard includes Tibetan bridges, a wooden footbridge, a beam, monkey bridges, ascents using rungs, traverses with handrails and pedals.

At the Cascade de Bérard, a new footbridge built on the right bank of the torrent welcomes visitors.

The Chemin des Diligences makes it possible to pass through the hamlets of Vallorcine, which have preserved their authenticity and traditions. From 1792, the route connected Martigny and Chamonix via the Col des Montets.

Culture and History

The bell tower of the Notre-Dame parish church contains three bells that are protected as historic monuments. The parish church is located in an avalanche corridor and is protected on its eastern side by the two arms of an imposing stone “Turne” or “Tourne” – the term used in the Vallorcin dialect for a bow-shaped protective wall above a building.

The Musée la Maison de Barberine, musée vallorcin, is housed in a restored traditional Vallorcine house dating from the early 18th century, in the hamlet of Barberine near the Swiss border. It preserves memories of the former lives of Vallorcine’s residents as well as traditional objects.

Local Life

The Petit marché de Vallorcine takes place every Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the car park of the Bar-Tabac-Presse.
