Sévrier is home to two of the three UNESCO-classified pile-dwelling sites on Lake Annecy. The underwater archaeological site of Les Mongets comprises remains of human settlement in a wetland, as well as still-visible piles supporting wooden structures. It dates from the Early Bronze Age and is dated to the 19th and 18th centuries BC; the Les Mongets sector is one of the extremely rare Early Bronze Age sites. The Crêt de Chatillon pile-dwelling site lies on an underwater island more than 800 metres from the shore.
Culture
The Musée PACCARD is dedicated to the Paccard bell foundry, which was founded in 1796 and moved to Sévrier in 1989. The museum offers guided tours of the workshops, where bell-making techniques are presented.
The Ecomusée du Lac d’Annecy has a panoramic terrace for the geological interpretation of the landscape. Through its intimate museographic design, it conveys the daily life of the people of Savoy in the 19th century, as well as the small and great history of Savoy.
At the Crêt de Chatillon and Les Mongets archaeological sites, buoys mark the areas where anchoring is prohibited; diving and anchoring are forbidden there.
Water
The Canoë Kayak Club de Sévrier offers kayaking courses, rentals and introductory courses for those aged ten and over. The Cercle de Voile de Sévrier is open to young people and adults who would like to discover and learn sailing on Lake Annecy.
The “Entre Lac et Montagne” programme includes two-hour guided discovery excursions once a week in summer to the most beautiful places on the western shore of Lake Annecy, including the Les Mongets pile-dwelling site and the Natura 2000 zone of the Marais de l’Enfer. Prior reservation is recommended. The excursions take place aboard a schooner or a catamaran.
Geographical location
The Voie Verte runs along the entrance to Sévrier’s municipal beach and provides access by bicycle, on foot or by scooter.
