Mégevette: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The “Les Balcons de Mégevette” route runs between forest and alpine farms; in the background, peaks of the Aravis and Mont Blanc can be seen. The “L'Alpage de Mégevette” hike leads through a landscape with alpine huts. In the past, its paths were used in summer to drive livestock up to the alpine pastures and in winter to transport hay and firewood on sledges.

Trails and Landscape

“Le Dorjon par Chauméty” is a 6-kilometre, very easy out-and-back hike with 40 metres of elevation gain. It starts at the church of Mégevette and leads via the hamlets of Le Bourg, Chez Fernay, Chez Rosset and Chauméty to the hamlet of Le Dorjon. At the starting point by the church of Mégevette, the trail now has new footpath signage.

The Pointe de Chavannais summit and the Haute Pointe mountain are located in the immediate vicinity of Mégevette. The summits of Pointe de Chalune and La Grande Pointe are also located in the surrounding area of Mégevette.

Culture and History

A Notre-Dame chapel in the church of Mégevette already existed in the 16th century. The Church of Saint Nicholas in Mégevette offers guided tours for groups on request. In the hamlet of Vers le Mont, visitors can view a religious motif carved into tree bark by a local self-taught artist at an alpine hut.

The Mégevette Festival organises a major concert in the church of Mégevette on three evenings every year. The Musée Barbier-Mueller is located in the wider regional area around Mégevette.

Activities

At the Grottes de Mégevette, a caving activity is offered in which galleries and spaces formed in limestone can be explored.

Local Products

La Ferme de Becadou in Mégevette offers farm-produced Tomme, Fromage de Mégevette, Raclette, Tomme blanche, Sérac, honey, eggs and beef products.
