Culture and History

The present-day Eglise paroissiale Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Chevenoz was completed in 1894 and blessed in 1897. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross. The church was built at a different location; a first church in Chevenoz is documented as early as 1411.

The Chapelle Saint-François de Sales in Chevenoz was built between 1868 and 1869 on the site of Abbé Vernaz's former home.

The Centrale hydroélectrique de Chevenoz was commissioned on 20 May 1898 to supply Évian-les-Bains with electricity. It is located on the banks of the Dranse d'Abondance. In 1909, the installation of a pump, an alternating-current generator and a Pelton turbine made it France's first pumped-storage power plant; it operated with a head of 400 metres.
