Culture and History

Vesc preserves a medieval villagescape with several Renaissance houses, mullioned windows and doors with keel-arch forms. From the Romanesque Église Saint-Pierre de Vesc, dating from the mid-12th century, the west façade and the three-bay nave have been preserved. Its portal features decorated capitals; numerous reused Romanesque elements can be found throughout the church, including decorative stonework, masons’ marks and ornamental reliefs.

The historic buildings also include the Maison de l'apothicaire, a Renaissance house with an apothecary sign dated 1592 or, according to other sources, 1597. The ruins of the Château de Vesc remain visible from the village. This villagescape is complemented by the Sentier Artistique des Caprines, an artistic walking trail in Vesc.

Landscape

The Montagne de Miélandre is characterised by diverse landscapes and a rich natural heritage that provides a refuge for numerous animal and plant species. At the beginning of 2024, it was recognised as the 23rd local Espace Naturel Sensible in the Drôme.

Outdoor Activities

The hiking route to Miélandre leads from the Ferme du Col to the 1,451-metre-high summit. To the south, it offers views of Mont Ventoux and the Baronnies; to the north, of the Vercors and the Diois; and to the east, of the montagne d'Angèle, which reaches up to 1,606 metres.

Le Pennard is a circular hiking route above the village of Vesc, with a challenging ascent to the Ruy launch area. The montagne du Ruy, at an altitude of 1,082 metres, is designated as a site for free flight and tandem paragliding.

Local Life

The Ferme de Pracoutel produces Picodons AOP as well as other cheeses, which visitors can sample during their visit. The farm offers a free, open-access visit to an organically farmed goat farm in Vesc. The Marché Paysan de Vesc takes place every Sunday in front of Café Asso; local producers offer bread, cheese, vegetables, eggs and beer there.
