Culture

The Château de Vaugelas has a Renaissance-style façade and a spiral staircase. Alphonse de Lamartine stayed there; his poem “Le Vallon” was inspired by this stay.

“La tournée de la factrice” is a walking game in which visitors put on a postal worker’s uniform and discover the history of Valdrôme with the help of a game sheet.

Hiking and discovery

The Parcours découverte du paysage is a circular trail with seven stops and is accessible to most visitors. It introduces the surroundings of Valdrôme, with hamlets, distinctive landforms and peaks, as well as the development of nature.

The “Sur le fil de l’eau” educational trail comprises seven information panels about the Drôme River, its relationship with people, the development of its landscapes and their management.

The Sentier des lavandes from the town centre to Pracheton takes one and a half hours. A second section leads from the town centre to Pié Bacou, takes 45 minutes, runs alongside lavender fields and offers a beautiful view of the village.

The Parcours animalier de la Ruche features life-size animal representations and information panels about their way of life. The Sentiers du Dahu offer an investigation around the village and the legendary Dahu with the help of an accompanying booklet, suitable for families or small groups.

The Valdrôme resort is closed in both winter and summer; the resort restaurant and sports activities are also closed. Numerous hiking and mountain biking trails start from the Valdrôme resort.

Les crêtes de Tarsimoure is a sporty, wild and exposed five-kilometre ridge traverse with some challenging sections and views throughout, reserved for experienced hikers.

Nature

The Valdrôme Natura 2000 site is home to an Ice Age fir forest, the rare black grouse and an abundant flowering of medicinal peonies.

Local life

During the lavender harvest held in early August, visitors can watch the last still-operating distillation apparatus there at Le Collet.

At the Valdrôme market, products from producers in the hamlets of Rossas and St Dizier are available.
