The Saint-Baudile Chapel has been listed as a historic monument since 1926. It is located outside the village of Upie, in the cemetery on the site of an ancient complex, and dates back to the 12th century. On the hill above the village of Upie, the remains of the old castle have given way to the Church of Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul.

Culture and History

The historic village tour includes a 15th-century house next to Upie Town Hall. A walk through the lanes also reveals the covered washhouse dating from 1867.

A special tradition is the Fête des Bouviers d’Upie, an agricultural winter festival held on the second Sunday in January. Today, the main events are concentrated over two weekends. To prepare for it, flowers made from crepe paper are crafted by hand every Friday evening in November. All residents of Upie are invited to take part at the community centre. The Fêtes des Bouviers et des Laboureurs de la Drôme were recognised at national level in November 2019.

Things to Do

Valsoyo “A Journey Around the World” is considered an orienteering course through the forests of Upie. Eight countries are represented by large white rocks; each country has its own questions, riddles and brainteasers.

The Zoo d’Upie is home to more than 800 animals from 180 different species. Educational animal experiences include lemur and meerkat feedings, parrot shows and a bird-of-prey display. The zoo also has two playgrounds and a petting zoo or mini-farm for children.

Anyone who has the Saint-Baudile Chapel, the Zoo d’Upie and Mont Miéry on their personal travel list can rent a holiday apartment in Upie.
