Nature

The area around the Col de Coucourdet offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and climbing. From the Col de Coucourdet, it is also possible to circumnavigate the 1,061-metre-high mountain. The Cougoir route takes experienced hikers through an impressive landscape to the rocky spur of Cougoir.

Culture and History

The old village of Teyssières consists of stone houses and calades, meaning paved lanes. It is located 2 kilometres from the hamlet of Moulin on the D130. On its descent from Mount Lance, the GR de Pays passes through the old village.

The Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul dates from the 19th century and was built on the site of an older church. A double-arched window distinguishes it above its portal. In the 13th century, several medieval lordships existed in Teyssières, including Audifret, also known as Audefred, and Taiseriis. The ruins of Château d’Audefrey are visible from the road via the Col de Valouse and are situated on the rock.

Agriculture and Crafts

The cultivation of lavender and aromatic plants, which also grow wild in the mountains, plays an important role in Teyssières’ agriculture. Essential oils are produced largely on site in a traditional distillery. In Teyssières, a family-run distillery uses a traditional steam process with lavandin straw. The lavandin essence obtained from it is of organic origin and is used mainly for cosmetic products.

Activities

The municipality of Teyssières provides a sports and climbing hall. It also provides an open-air theatre.
