Landscape and Nature

The Crête de la colline de Chevrière area covers approximately 2.7 hectares and is located on the summit of Mont de la Chevrière, which stretches across Roynac and Puy-Saint-Martin. The ridge features calcareous grassland and has high potential for orchids and entomofauna. As part of the Le Baron et Chevrière route, Chevrière is considered a remarkable natural area.

La Pierre sanglante is a hiking destination and meeting point for three municipalities. The site is already mentioned in a document from 1286. Numerous legends are associated with La Pierre sanglante, including stories of Celtic human sacrifice and the execution of prisoners by the Saracens (Moors).

Culture and History

The route over the Col du Devès is considered an access route to the old village for hikers and cyclists. The old village includes the Lombard bell tower of Saint-Lambert Church. There are also cellars and sheepfolds with dry-stone vaulted ceilings.

The former Romanesque Saint-Lambert Church was a small building with two parallel naves: one from the 12th century and one from the 16th century. Only the bell tower and four sections of wall remain from the church; its vault collapsed on 16 July 1768. Access to the bell tower ruins is prohibited.

Hiking and Cycling

As a more challenging option, the Grand Tour de la Valdaine cycling route offers the Tartaiguille ascent in the hills above Roynac.

Getting Oriented Locally

The Vierge du voeu de Roynac is located at the edge of the village above the D107 departmental road in the direction of Puy-Saint-Martin.
