The entire Rochefort-en-Valdaine castle complex – including the fortification ring, keep, residential buildings and Saint-Blaise Chapel – has been listed as a historic monument since 6 September 2011.
The keep of Rochefort-en-Valdaine is 18 metres high and still contains its original vaulted hall.
The old village at the foot of Rochefort-en-Valdaine Castle was abandoned in 1907. Saint-Blaise Chapel dates from the 14th century and has a Gothic entrance porch. The restored Saint-Blaise Chapel is open to visitors.

The Rochefort-en-Valdaine castle complex and its surroundings are protected as a classified site because of their considerable architectural, historical and landscape significance.
A staircase leads to the terrace on the keep of Rochefort-en-Valdaine; from there, it offers panoramic views over the Rhône Valley.

The La Fontaine de Rocoule restaurant in Rochefort-en-Valdaine offers cuisine inspired by Haut-Lyonnais, with regional dishes such as frog legs, andouillette, calf’s head and snails.
Circular walks
On the circular route in the Vallon de la Citelle, charcoal kilns, a chapel and the river are among the attractions.
The Le Janeston circular route leads from the medieval site of Rochefort-en-Valdaine to the slopes of the Citelles Valley and onto the Janeston plateau.
