Culture and History
The Château de Pontaix was a fortification consisting of a village, castle and enclosure. Its purpose was to monitor passage through the valley. The Château de Pontaix was demolished in 1581.
Near Pontaix are the Porte Saint-Marcel monument and the historic site of Abbaye de Valcroissant. In the wider region around Pontaix are also La tour de Crest castle and the historic site of Crest Tower.
Landscape and Nature
The Cascade d’Aiguebelle is particularly popular in summer. The access path to the Cascade d’Aiguebelle is dangerous. Numerous accidents occur at the Cascade d’Aiguebelle every year, including one serious accident.
The Roc de Barry peak, the Butte de l'Aiglette mountain and the Montagne des Condamines mountain are located in the immediate vicinity of Pontaix. The Montagne de Palaire mountain is located near Pontaix.
Another connection to Pontaix is provided by the Col de la Croix cycling circuit: its route passes through Pontaix, where the route point is 17 km from the start in Saillans. The Col de la Croix cycling circuit is rated as very difficult, is 58.06 km long and has an elevation gain of 800 metres.
