Mercurol: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature

The La Veaune walking trail runs along the Veaune and offers beautiful views of the Vercors, the nearby hills, the Rhône, and the Ardèche. The La Veaune circular route starts at the parking area of the Veaunes community hall and ends again at the community hall parking area.

Les Hauts de Mercurol is an easy, family-friendly hike through the hills of Mercurol, offering views of the Tain-l’Hermitage valley, Chanos-Curson, and the Château de Conflans. The route is overlooked by the Tour de Mercurol and is not accessible to strollers.

Wine

The Mercurol-Veaunes wine route crosses the municipality and offers the opportunity to discover the local terroirs of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. Along the wine route, visitors can take walks through the vineyards and visit local wine cellars, where they can discover the wines of the municipality and their preferred terroirs.

A visit to Domaine de la Ville Rouge lasts one and a half hours and includes the vineyards, the wine cellar, and a guided tasting of Crozes-Hermitage wines. Visits to Domaine de la Ville Rouge are only possible by prior appointment.

Culture and History

The Tour de Mercurol is a heritage viewpoint dating from the late 10th century, offering a panorama from the Rhône Valley to the Vercors mountains. The restored Lavoir de Veaunes can be reached via the La Veaune circular route and preserves the history of the washerwomen of the past.

The Église Saint-Étienne dates back to the 14th century and is visible from the La Veaune hiking trail. The Église Sainte-Anne stands in the town center, was built around 1520, and can be reached uphill via the Route des Pends.

The Chapelle Saint-Pierre dates from the late 10th century, is located on the Sentier du Patrimoine, is open to visitors during Heritage Days, and occasionally serves as an exhibition venue. The Chapelle Saint-Pierre de Marnas was restored by volunteers and inaugurated on September 20, 2008.

Traditions

Every year on December 8, a torchlight descent takes place at the Tour de Mercurol. The Four Panyol is fired up every June for the Fête du Four et du Pain festival.

The Four Bannaret was in operation from 1548 until the end of the 19th century and can now be visited in the town center.
