Menglon lies on alluvial soils at the foot of La Grésière, in a valley between vineyards and walnut groves.
Those choosing Menglon as a destination want to find a holiday apartment.
Nature
The La Grésière hiking loop begins in the hamlet of Gallands in Menglon. It is 12 kilometres long, involves an ascent of 850 metres and is marked in yellow. The route passes through a pedestrian tunnel built by reforestation workers and along a section on the mountainside equipped with a safety cable. Along the way, it reaches a summit meadow with a 360-degree panorama.
Arbo’Magic is a nature leisure park for families in Menglon, featuring net walkways, tree houses for discovering the wildlife of the Vercors, large slides, a barefoot trail and an underground gallery. The elevated net walkways include nine tree houses, while the large slides are up to 16 metres long. There is also a sensory barefoot trail and a 40-metre-long underground gallery about the life of trees and animals.
Culture and history
At the summit of Serre des Combes, the Castrum Menglonis was recognised as an episcopal lordship in 1165. Today, the former village of Menglon, located on the hilltop, retains retaining walls, parts of the fortification walls, stairs and cellars.
The Piémard mines extracted galena with lead, blende and calamine with zinc in the late 19th century and were closed in 1903. The former zinc and lead mine can be explored via the Sentier des mines; the ruins of the administrative building, the entrance and a settling basin can be seen there.
Winegrowing
Menglon has 80 hectares of vineyards; just under 99 percent of them produce AOP wines, including Châtillon en Diois, Clairette de Die and Crémant.
On the way
The Le petit Menglonnais route passes through the village of Menglon, between walnut groves and to the fountain in the hamlet of Luzerand. The Le petit Menglonnais family circular walk includes three fun activity stations that can be visited along the route.
