La Motte-Chalancon: Holiday Apartments and Houses

La Motte-Chalancon is located in the Parc naturel régional des Baronnies provençales. The Les crêtes des Ruelles ridges stretch across a small plateau between Vercors and the Baronnies, characterised by dry-stone walls, apricot trees and lavender; above them, vultures circle.

Culture

Part of the wall of the Romanesque Notre-Dame church, dating from the 12th or 13th century, has been preserved. The Calade de la Tour leads to the monumental gateway of the esplanade of the former château of La Motte-Chalancon. A report from 1303 describes the extension of Notre-Dame church to the north and east. The polygonal apse was to be replaced by a flat-ended choir with a large Gothic pointed-arch window; the work remained unfinished.

Activities

La Motte-Chalancon offers signposted circular routes for hiking, horse riding, cycling and mountain biking. Oasis Bellecombe offers educational and guided tours. The Oasis Bellecombe eco-site also offers a two-hour tour focusing on self-sufficient living and living in harmony with nature.

During seasonal excursions at Pas des Ondes led by a naturalist, visitors can observe dragonflies and wetland fauna; binoculars and butterfly nets are provided. At the Espace Naturel Sensible des Pendants near La Motte-Chalancon, a naturalist-led observation session on insects and their behaviour is offered.

The mountains Montagne d'Oule, Montagne de Longue-Serre, Montagne de la Ruelle and Haute Huche are located in the immediate vicinity of La Motte-Chalancon.

The historic site of Abbaye de Valcroissant is located in the wider regional surroundings of La Motte-Chalancon. The monument Porte Saint-Marcel, the Église Saint-Julien church and the Chapelle Saint-Médard chapel are also located there.
