Culture and History
The wedding room of La Coucourde Town Hall features a fireplace with a carved mantelpiece dated 1671. A former inn in La Coucourde now houses the town hall.
Lachamp is a former fortified village at the eastern end of La Coucourde. The historic ford across the Leyne was defended by the Château de la tour de Leyne, the tower castle of Leyne.
The coat of arms of La Coucourde contains a scallop shell because pilgrims travelling the Routes of Santiago de Compostela passed through the commune. Originally, La Coucourde was a stopping place on the royal road between Paris and Marseille, where coach and boat travellers and their draught animals rested.
The origin of the name La Coucourde is locally associated with the possible sign of an inn depicting a golden pumpkin fruit (“courge d’or”, Provençal “cougourde”).
Nature
The Île du Rhône à Meysse et La Coucourde is a type 1 ZNIEFF natural area covering 385 hectares. The islands of the ZNIEFF are covered with reeds or naturally growing woody vegetation and provide breeding habitat for several species of heron.
Water
La Coucourde has waterside promenades that are suitable for fishing. From April to October, the water sports centre at Domaine des Roches in La Coucourde offered sailing with the ASGE Drôme Ardèche club.
