Grane: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Grane is a village situated on a hill, known for its ochre-coloured molasse. Beneath almost every house in the village are old quarry faces from former quarries.

Culture

The Prieuré de Grane comprises a 12th-century chapel listed as a Monument historique, as well as a U-shaped 13th-century building. The complex also includes a 9th-century defensive tower and architectural elements dating from the 11th to the 16th century.

Except during the guided tours organised for the European Heritage Days, the Prieuré de Grane is strictly closed to the public.

The Clocher de Grâne is a free-standing Gothic bell tower dating from the 15th century. It is 36 m high overall, while its supporting walls are more than 2 m thick. The bell tower can be visited as part of guided village tours on Thursdays at 10 a.m. in July and August, as well as during the European Heritage Days.

The cultural heritage site in Grane is open every day year-round and admission is free. It can be visited independently; guided tours are available on request.

At the top of the village, the former quarries have been transformed into the Théâtre de Verdure, a cultural venue. In summer, it hosts the varied “Vendredis de Grâne” programme, as well as the “En Philigrâne” festival in June.

Nature and Trails

Volunteers from the Bois de la Dame association maintain and mark Grane’s mountain biking trails. The Les ramières de Grâne loop is an easy 14.25 km mountain bike route with 50 m of elevation gain and a stated duration of 1 hour 26 minutes. It leads into the Ramières nature reserve, where there may be a chance to spot beavers.

The challenging Les villages perchés road cycling route starts in Grane, is 49 km long and has 1,026 m of elevation gain. The route provides an opportunity to visit the feudal villages of Autichamp, La Roche-sur-Grâne, Marsanne, Mirmande and Cliouscliat, where the villages originated.

From September to June, Grâne Rando Loisirs offers hikes every week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with varying levels of difficulty. The Bois de la Dame hiking route offers an unusual view of the western part of the Saoû syncline.
