Combovin: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Combovin lies at the foot of the Vercors and extends onto the massif’s first high plateaus. The highest point in the municipality is over 900 metres above sea level. The landscape is predominantly agricultural and forested, offering a variety of views between the valleys and the Vercors massif.

The three rivers Vollonge, Cursayes and Véore rise in Combovin and run through the municipality’s three valleys.

Landscape

Since the park was established in 1985, Combovin has been part of the Vercors Regional Nature Park. More than 500 plant species have been recorded in the municipality. Orchids are also found here, including Anacamptis, Barlia, Dactylorhiza, Orchis and Ophrys; some orchid species are protected.

Culture and History

Above the village stands the Sainte-Marguerite Chapel, which dates from the 19th century. A pilgrimage takes place at the chapel on the third Sunday in July.

Combovin’s water-related cultural heritage includes fountains, canals, former mills, a washhouse and footbridges. The village’s wartime history includes the destruction of the town centre in a bombing raid on 22 June 1944, in which nine people died.

Things to Do

Combovin’s village centre can be explored on foot through its lanes and along the greenery-covered arcades in front of the houses. Several hikes of varying difficulty start from the centre of the village, including a route to Sainte-Marguerite Chapel.

The viewpoint at the chapel overlooks the Valence plain; the view extends as far as the Isère Valley. The Le pas du Buis route crosses wooded ridges and grazed hollows around the Véore Valley.
