Bourg-De-Péage: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The medieval Old Bridge of Bourg-de-Péage preserves several traces of its history: on its southern side, it had a gate tower, while on the northern side were the Notre-Dame-du-Pont chapel and a small hospital. The bridge was repeatedly damaged by flooding from the Isère; the scar of its destroyed second arch can still be seen today.

Those who choose Bourg-de-Péage for a visit to the Old Bridge, the quays or the Bois des Naix may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture and History

A defining part of the town’s history is the hat industry. The felt hat industry was introduced in Bourg-de-Péage around 1810 and employed more than 400 workers in 16 workshops in the mid-19th century. The Mossant company, a pioneer of the Bourg-de-Péage hat industry, employed more than 1,200 workers at its peak in 1929.

The town’s name also refers to the bridge’s former function: Bourg-de-Péage derives from tolls that were once levied on goods at the southern entrance to the bridge. The Maison Pascalis boutique houses the bakery and the Pogne Museum. The local events calendar also includes Journée du Japon, a cultural and festive event for discovering Japanese culture.
