Allex: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Allex is a medieval village perched on a rocky outcrop in the Drôme, with a rich cultural heritage. Those considering Allex as a destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment there.
Culture
At MUSAA, the collections include everyday and sacred objects from the traditions of equatorial Africa: tools, bowls, seats, weapons, jewellery, masks and statues. The museum opened in November 2018, making its collections, previously largely unknown to the general public and specialists, accessible to visitors. Guided tours, a quiz game and storytelling sessions for children complement the exploration of the collection there.
A visit to the Aquarium des Tropiques takes visitors through six regions of the world and also includes collections of insects, preserved butterflies and shells. Several hundred species of tropical freshwater fish are displayed in 35 aquariums with capacities of up to 50,000 litres. Educational workshops and a family quiz booklet for children are also available.
History and trails
The Maison St Joseph is housed in a château built by the La Tour du Pin family in the 18th century. In 1920, the Congregation of the Holy Spirit acquired the château and developed it into a small seminary for training missionaries. La Motte de la Tour Ronde preserves the remains of a castle that was associated with the bishops of Valence in 1318.
Allex’s old stepped streets include covered passageways known as "andrones". The Saint Joseph sanctuary in the village is considered a place of welcome and pilgrimage; a major pilgrimage takes place there every year on the third Sunday in May. The brochure "Allex Pas à Pas" describes eleven walks through Allex’s streets and paths and includes old photographs, anecdotes, maps and explanations.
Nature
The Ramières Nature Reserve is one of France’s 20 river nature reserves. It offers guided tours and public nature events throughout the year to help visitors explore the flora and fauna. La Gare des Ramières is the nature reserve’s visitor centre and gives families the opportunity to learn about the environment, species and habitats of the area.
The Ramières Nature Reserve offers opportunities for mountain biking, road cycling and hiking, as well as a themed trail and a botanical educational trail.
