Nature

The Étang Prêle is located in the municipalities of Valeins and Chaneins and covers 12.7 hectares. In 2016, it was awarded the “Espace Naturel Sensible” designation by the Ain department.

More than thirty bird species are regularly observed at the Étang Prêle. The palmate newt is also found there, alongside other amphibian species. The vegetation consists mainly of stands of rushes, reed beds and wetlands.

When planning a trip, you may wish to focus on renting a holiday apartment in Valeins.

Experiences

An interpretation trail runs around the Étang Prêle. However, it is not possible to walk around the entire shoreline in order to limit disturbance to the birds, particularly in a nesting area. Guided tours of the Étang Prêle are available for groups by prior appointment.

The game “Physalis and the Ponds - Horsetail Panic” uses clues and puzzles on boards around the Étang Prêle.

Culture

The Église Saint-Laurent in Valeins contains a monumental painting entitled “Croix de consécration”. The painting was listed as a protected object on 16 November 1990.

The gable of the Église Saint-Laurent in Valeins also contains a small round-arched window that is probably Romanesque.
