The road up to the Col de la Rochette begins in Ruffieu and climbs 6 km to an altitude of 1,113 m. It passes through a coniferous forest and reaches the summit beneath fir trees.

History

The Église Saint-Didier in Ruffieu was rebuilt in the 17th century. Ruffieu's archaeological heritage includes numerous Gallo-Roman finds from the town centre and various other sites in the municipality. Ruffieu contains traces of human settlement dating from the Neolithic period. The Grotte de Préoux is part of Ruffieu's historical heritage.

Following the severe storm on 16 July 2026, the Chatelard loop of the Sentier des bacs et des fontaines will be inaccessible for several months. Until further notice, access is strongly discouraged.

Local life

The Marché de producteurs et d'artisans de Ruffieu takes place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon; its regular offering includes a market garden business, a bakery and a cheese dairy.
