In Monthieux, the circular route Circuit de l'étang de Vernange begins at the church square and leads to the Domaine de Vernange, designated as an ENS, and its observation station.

Those who have chosen Monthieux as their destination may want to rent a holiday apartment there.

Nature

The Domaine de Vernange, designated as an ENS, is located in the municipalities of Saint-André-de-Corcy, Monthieux and Civrieux and received the ENS designation from the Ain département in 2016. The area includes several ponds, associated wetlands, wooded areas and land used for agriculture. An observation station at the Domaine enables walkers to observe the birds associated with these habitats.

Culture

The medieval Château du Breuil, which was formerly a fief of the Governor of La Dombes, forms part of Monthieux's historic character. The church on Place de l'Eglise is partly listed as a historic monument; this listing excludes the bell tower and the west façade. The church in Monthieux has a red-brick bell tower dating from the 12th century, is considered a Romanesque church and has a nave with numerous burial sites.

Leisure

Golf du Gouverneur has 45 holes with varying levels of difficulty and offers three courses: Le Breuil, Montaplan with 18 holes, and a 9-hole practice course. The facility also includes a large water-based practice area with covered mats and large grass platforms, a chipping green, a large putting green and two full-size practice holes.

Gastronomy

In Monthieux, La Table du Gouverneur offers seasonal bistronomic cuisine.
