The Saint-Clair Church in Montagnat was rebuilt in 1862 in the shape of a Latin cross after the former church was damaged by lightning in 1849. It features a bell tower porch, a Flamboyant-style portal, a three-bay nave with ribbed vaults, two side chapels and a five-sided apse.

The church houses the painting “La Montée au Calvaire ou Sainte Véronique”, dated to the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries and bearing the signature “N. DE HOEY”. It was classified as a protected cultural object on 26 May 2000. The painting “Le Repos de la sainte famille ou Sainte Famille à l'oiseau” was listed as a protected cultural object on 19 January 1976. It was originally located in the choir of Saint-Clair Church, above the side door, and is currently kept in the departmental archives until it can be returned to the church.

The Château de Montplaisant in Montagnat has been protected as a historic monument since 28 December 1981. The protection covers the entrance portal and its gate, the façades and roofs of the château, the two entrance pavilions and the large salon with its furnishings.

Nature

Montagnat lies at the foot of the Revermont. The Étang du Saugé is a recreational area for fishing; it also has a picnic area for leisure activities. The Revermont around Montagnat is suitable for mountain biking.

The “Itinéraire équestre Montagnat-Ceyzeriat” riding route is connected at Mont July to the Ceyzériat–Izernore and Ceyzériat–Villemotier routes.

Gastronomy

The Brasserie Saint-Clair offers private tours or tours for small groups on request. During visits to the Brasserie Saint-Clair, beers from the “La Bressane” range can be tasted.

The Au Pot de Grès restaurant serves market cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients; all dishes are homemade.
