In Mas Rillier in Miribel stands the 33-metre-high statue of Notre-Dame du Sacré-Cœur, which was inaugurated on 5 July 1941. An interior staircase with 151 steps leads to a balcony in the crown of the Notre-Dame du Sacré-Cœur statue. From there, an exceptional panorama unfolds over Miribel, the Grand Parc, the Lyon metropolitan area, as well as the Alps and Mont Blanc.

Nature

Since 2014, the Île de Miribel-Jonage has been designated an Espace Naturel Sensible. The 668.81-hectare river-island area also includes Miribel; the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage forms part of a Natura 2000 area. The ENS area features a great diversity of habitats and species associated with the development of the Rhône river system.

The ENS area includes a visitor trail along agricultural tracks and forest paths, with ten stops covering the river landscapes, as well as a downloadable audio guide. Part of the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage lies in Miribel and is presented by the town as a natural and leisure area.

Culture and History

The Gothic choir, crossing, a side chapel and part of the bell tower of the Église Saint-Martin have been preserved. The church houses a Gothic altarpiece classified as a Monument historique since 1928, as well as several listed polychrome wooden statues. It is one of Miribel’s oldest historical testimonies and preserves more than seven centuries of religious, social and heritage history.

The Fresque de la Place Grobon in the heart of Miribel is a 100 m² trompe-l’œil by 7ème Sens. It was inaugurated on 5 July 2013 and depicts Henri Grobon, Joséphine Guillon, Henri Deschamps and Jean Moulin. The Fresque des Bateliers in Saint-Martin recalls Miribel’s river history and illustrates the importance of the Rhône for the region’s economic and social development. The Fresque des Frères Garnier honours two local figures and symbolises the spirit of brotherhood and commitment within the Miribel community.

On Place Henri-Grobon stands the Croix de la fontaine de Saint-Romain, a classified 19th-century cross that was converted in 1832 into a fountain with three troughs supplied by the Source des Vingt.

Experiences

Nearby is L’îloz’ in the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage. It offers permanent and temporary exhibitions, gardens, events and performances. L’îloz’ is also the starting point for numerous walks accessible to a wide audience.

The Carillon du Mas Rillier regularly hosts concerts that are open to the public.

Getting Around

Miribel centre is one of Miribel’s two railway stations. The Madone site is inaccessible in 2025 and 2026 due to rehabilitation work related to the Madone project.
