The church dedicated to Saint Peter was confirmed to Ainay, the church of Lyon, on 26 February 1153. The Church of Saint Peter was extended over the centuries; presumably, only the apse is original. Its bell is classified as a protected cultural object; the protection dates from 20 September 1943.

The Château de Montbriand complex, listed as a historic monument, comprises the château, the courtyard of honour, the moats to the east, the entrance portal to the forecourt and the chapel. It was listed by decree on 23 January 1989.

Moulin Neuf was already mentioned in written records in 1539. Between 1995 and 2000, it was restored and converted into a residential building. Moulin Neuf can be visited during the European Heritage Days.

Landscape and nature

The towpath along the Saône offers opportunities for walks in Messimy-sur-Saône.

The Mâtre is a tributary of the Saône and offers a natural, idyllic setting as well as a pleasantly cool place in summer.

The Val de Saône features a rare combination of wet woodlands, bocage landscape, islands and former river channels.

There is a shaded, green picnic area along the Voie Bleue.
