Winter Sports and Trails
The Porte de la Chapelle de Retord access point offers a 4 km green cross-country ski trail, a 7 km blue trail and a 23 km black trail. Snowshoeing loops are no longer marked at the Porte de la Chapelle access point. There are 11 loops on the Plateau de Retord, some of which begin at the Chapelle access point. The loop to the Chapelle de Retord is rated very easy for hiking and easy for snowshoeing.
Landscape
The Crêt du Nû mountain is located in the vicinity of Le Grand-Abergement. The l'Hergues mountain is also located nearby. In the wider regional area around Le Grand-Abergement are the Le Grand Colombier mountain and the Montagne des Princes mountain.
Culture and History
The present-day Chapelle de Retord was built in 1852. The La Chapelle-du-Retord church is located in the vicinity of Le Grand-Abergement. In the wider regional area are the historic site of Abbaye de Saint-Sulpice, Château des Allymes and Château de Grammont.
The Golet Belon farm in Le Grand-Abergement is situated at an altitude of 1,150 metres and was originally called “Sur l'avallaz”. The roof and the “dreffia” of the Golet Belon farm were restored in spring 2014.
