Évosges lies in a small hollow at an average elevation of 740 metres. The location of the village offers hikers numerous viewpoints.

History

The history of the village includes the Church of Saint Martin: in 1191, it is mentioned as belonging to the ecclesiastical holdings of Saint-Rambert Abbey. Its oldest part is the choir, to which the sacristy is attached and which is supported on the outside by two buttresses. The former baptismal piscina in the Church of Saint Martin in Évosges dates from the 11th to the 12th century and is listed as a historic monument.

Southwest of the village, below the church and near the present-day pond, lies the very old Bac de Buynand. The Doye spring, which feeds the Bac de Buynand, was developed around 1675.

A building was bought back by the municipality in 2002, renovated and converted into a memorial site.

Paths and Water

The signposted Sentier de Mémoire d’Évosges leads from the village towards Laye and the Ferme de Marchat, a memorial site. Through the forest, it reaches Terriau, crosses the D102 and continues towards the ruins of the Fermes du Termant.

Fishing is possible at the Étang de Buynand from 28 March to 11 November 2026. The Étang de Buynand is easily accessible for family fishing. A fishing permit issued by the local association is required for fishing at the private Étang de Buynand.

Orientation

The farmstead can be visited freely; an explanatory sign is located on the town hall square in the centre of the village.

The La Fruitière holiday cottage is located in a municipal building on the edge of the village and comprises an apartment rented all year round.
