Those exploring Ambérieu-en-Bugey will come across the Château des Allymes, a 14th-century fortress classified as a historic monument. It has five exhibition rooms – three permanent exhibition rooms devoted to the history of the castle and two rooms for temporary historical or artistic exhibitions. From the car park, it can be reached via a walk of around ten minutes; people with reduced mobility, including temporarily reduced mobility, may drive up to the castle esplanade.

The Musée du Cheminot preserves Ambérieu-en-Bugey’s railway heritage. The walking trail from Vareilles to Lac Bleu in Ambérieu-en-Bugey follows the Gardon; information panels there explain the former industrial activity of the historic district. The lake was formed by a water impoundment, and its colours range from emerald green to turquoise. Swimming and water sports are not permitted there.
