Coast and nature

At Plage de la Croisette, the Club Nautique de Sainte-Maxime offers lessons and training in various water sports. Plage de la Madrague has retained its natural character, with a succession of coves suitable for walking and snorkelling.

Pointe des Sardinaux can only be reached on foot via the Corniche and forms part of the coastal footpath. Scuba diving is possible there at depths of 0 to 40 metres, allowing visitors to explore the underwater world of the Mediterranean.

In the hills above Sainte-Maxime runs the Sentier du Deffend, a hiking trail offering 360-degree views of the Esterel Massif, the Massif des Maures and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

Culture and history

Construction of the Tour Carrée as a coastal tower to protect Sainte-Maxime began in 1520. Guided tours of the Tour Carrée can be booked. The Church of Sainte-Maxime was built in 1762 and expanded in 1851; it acquired its final appearance in 1938 following the demolition of the presbytery.

The architecture and heritage trail through Sainte-Maxime comprises 26 stops and is designed as a walk lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Near Plage de la Nartelle, at the Débarquement roundabout, stands a Sherman tank commemorating Sainte-Maxime’s wartime history and a hard-won freedom.

Nature and discovery

The Jardin Botanique des Myrtes is home to more than 60 species of Mediterranean plants, some of which are over a hundred years old. The botanical garden also has a children’s play area and a Braille educational trail for visually impaired visitors.

Local life and events

The covered market in Sainte-Maxime city centre is open all year round and offers local specialities as well as produce from local producers. The wine discovery tour at Domaine des Beaucas leads through the rows of vines along small paths and ends with a tasting of the estate’s wines.

The Mimosa Parade in Sainte-Maxime is a colourful spectacle featuring twelve floats representing the twelve months of the year. It showcases the mimosa and the vitality of the town.
