Saint-Zacharie: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Zacharie is closely associated with ceramics. The ceramic kilns in Saint-Zacharie are among the five significant stops on the Var Industrial Heritage Route. Since the 10th century, the town produced roof tiles, bricks and everyday ceramics for domestic use; in the 17th century, Saint-Zacharie became one of the major centres of ceramics.

Culture and history

The former washhouse at the Pont de Saint-Roch was a meeting place for the washerwomen of Saint-Zacharie on the banks of the Huveaune. There are 16 fountains in the streets of the village of Saint-Zacharie. The first construction phase of the church in Saint-Zacharie dates back to the 11th century; later additions were made up to the 17th century, and the church is listed as a historic monument. The church houses the relic known as “Lou San Sabatoun”.

The Fête Votive of Saint-Zacharie is also part of the local festival calendar: it is an annual summer festival with fairground rides, games and evening music. The Chemin des Fées follows the watercourse along the Huveaune Valley. In the Hameau de la Foux, Marie, the spring fairy, is part of the section of the Chemin des Fées in Saint-Zacharie.

Nature

The Sources des Nayes are a wooded spring site at the foot of the Massif de la Sainte-Baume. Paths run through the forest and along streams there.

Getting around

The Promenade des Sources is an easy 5.4-kilometre walk starting in Saint-Zacharie. It begins at the tourist office on Square Reda Caire, passes the Source des Nayes and returns to Saint-Zacharie via the Piste des Sources. The route also passes the Source des Nayes, follows the Peyruis stream and reaches the Orgnon Bridge.
