History and Culture

The Chapelle de la Miséricorde was built in 1623 by the White Penitents. The chapel displays old ex-votos, religious objects once belonging to the White Penitents, and a more than 100-year-old copy of Murillo’s painting The Assumption of the Virgin.

The village church was built in the 17th century, extended in 1822, and is dedicated to Saint Lawrence and Saint Sebastian. Its furnishings include frescoes and a Carolingian altar.

Along the Chemin des Roys, four of the original seven Renaissance oratories have been preserved; they were built in 1516. The wider region around Nans-les-Pins is also home to Ouvrage de la Pointe, Fort du Pipaudon, Fort de la Croix Faron and Fort Faron – all four are forts.

Activities and Trails

Golf Sainte Baume is an 18-hole golf course in Nans-les-Pins. The public practice facility has around 30 artificial-turf teeing areas, including a covered section with around ten mats.

The L’Escaillon and Ice Trail circular hike is 10 km long, takes 3 hours, has an elevation gain of 355 metres, is moderately difficult and marked in green; it starts at the Parking de la Ferrage. The circular hike follows the traces of former ice producers from Sainte-Baume.

Vieux Nans can only be reached on foot from the Chapelle de la Miséricorde, in about 30 minutes. Around 15 information boards can be used to explore Vieux Nans independently.

Landscape and Nature

The Grotte de sainte Marie-Madeleine is a cave in the area around Nans-les-Pins. La Citerne is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Nans-les-Pins. The summit of Montmorin and the summit of La Mouère are also located nearby.

The sources of the Huveaune have been part of the “Massif de la Sainte-Baume” Natura 2000 area since 1998.
