Culture

The Église de Saint-Eutrope is a 16th-century church; construction began in 1540. The Chartreuse de Montrieux in Méounes-lès-Montrieux was built in 1137. The chapel of the Chartreuse de Montrieux-le-Vieux was classified as a Monument historique by decree of 25 February 1980. The remains of the former abbey of the Chartreuse de Montrieux-le-Vieux were listed as a Monument historique by the same decree, with the exception of the part that had already been classified.

The Fontaine des quatre saisons is listed as a Monument historique. It gets its name from four masks representing the seasons and pouring water into a basin. The statue La Vierge du Château stands on the summit of the former medieval village of Méounes; the present statue was erected in 1997.

Nature

The Lône runs through Méounes and powered several oil, flour and sumac mills there for several centuries. The Morières-Montrieux forest covers 2,273 hectares and boasts a rich natural heritage.

The Réserve biologique dirigée de Valbelle protects the Aiguilles de Valbelle complex, as well as old oak forests, rocky habitats and dolomitic grasslands. It is crossed by the long-distance hiking trail GR®9.

Getting around

Bus route 849 between Saint-Maximin and Toulon serves the Méounes Centre stop. At the Chartreuse de Montrieux, only the reception building and a small chapel are open to the public.
