Le Thoronet: Holiday apartments and houses

Le Thoronet Abbey was built between 1160 and 1230. It is classified as a Historic Monument and is one of the three Cistercian abbeys in Provence.

Culture

Le Thoronet Abbey features architecture and acoustics that are unique in France. The concert series Les Musicales de l’abbaye du Thoronet takes place in this historic setting. Founded in 2022, it is dedicated to classical music from the Middle Ages to the present day. The abbey church and cloister are used as concert venues.

Le Thoronet is also a stop on the tourist route Var Monasteries, a culture- and heritage-focused route. Nearby is Thoronet Abbey, a monastery. The surrounding area also includes Abbaye de Florièyes, a ruin, and Saint-Hermentaire Church, a church. In the wider region is Chartreuse de La Verne (Collobrières, Var), a monastery.

Paths and landscape

By car, Le Thoronet Abbey can be reached from the A8, exit 35 Le Cannet-des-Maures–Le Luc, and then via the D79 in less than 15 minutes from the motorway exit. The Chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle from the collegiate church in Lorgues to Le Thoronet Abbey is a 14 km, four-hour linear hike. As a pilgrimage route, it passes through the wooded hills of the Argens Valley to Le Thoronet Abbey.

The Argens crosses Le Thoronet for 26 km; its river landscape can be explored by canoe or kayak.

Montagne des Ubacs is a mountain in the vicinity of Le Thoronet. The surrounding area also includes Montagne du Serré, a mountain, and Abbaye de Florièyes, a ruin. In the wider region are Puy de la Signe and Sommet de Castel Diol, both mountains.
