The garden of the Domaine d'Orvès has carried the French Ministry of Culture's “Jardin remarquable” label since 2006 and combines native plants with plants from other parts of the world. Renting a holiday apartment in La Valette-du-Var can be part of your personal holiday planning. The Jardin de Baudouvin features citrus plantings, vegetable gardens, collections of medicinal and aromatic plants, as well as an orchard and a vineyard. The Jardin de Baudouvin takes part in “Rendez-vous aux jardins” and the “Journées européennes du patrimoine”; admission is free. Guided tours of the garden of the Domaine d'Orvès are possible year-round, except in August, by prior appointment.

Historic traces

The old town of La Valette-du-Var features picturesque lanes and colourful houses that bear witness to its rich historical past. At the Église Saint-Jean à la Porte latine, the partial listing as a “Monument historique” concerns the Porte latine and the apse. The Fontaine de La Révolution is one of the historic fountains in the centre of La Valette-du-Var. The present-day Fontaine de La Révolution was built in 1859 and dedicated to the French Revolution in 1889. The Fontaine de La Convention was rebuilt using stones from Tourris and was given a washhouse in 1858. The Fontaine Le Samson was built in the 17th century. The Fontaine Jeanne is traditionally said to have been excavated in 1345 on the orders of Queen Jeanne, Queen of Naples and Countess of Provence, during her brief stay in La Valette. The five-century-old Pont Sainte-Cécile carries the water of the former course of Le Valat Vieux beneath its arch.

Nature and trails

The olive conservatory of La Valette-du-Var comprises more than 52 olive varieties. The Vallon de la Sorbière offers a waterside walking route in the hinterland of La Valette-du-Var. The Chemin des crêtes leads to the summit of Bigoye Hill in the hinterland of La Valette-du-Var. Hiking trails from La Valette-du-Var towards Coudon offer views of Toulon Bay. The Le Sentier au Fil de l'Eau has seven possible stages along its route and runs from the town centre of La Valette-du-Var to the higher areas of Baudouvin.
