The Espace Naturel Sensible de la Brûlade offers more than 6 hectares of protected nature in the heart of La Londe-les-Maures.
The Jardin des Mattes underwater trail reaches a depth of 0 to 4 metres and includes seagrass meadows with Posidonia and Cymodocea, rocks, sand and gravel inhabited by numerous fish, molluscs, crustaceans and starfish.
The Jardin des Mattes can be explored independently and free of charge from June to September by following the numbered buoys; guided tours are offered through the tourist office.
Trails and history
The Sentier du littoral: L'Argentière / Fort de Brégançon begins at the eastern end of L'Argentière beach, follows yellow markings, passes the beaches of Pellegrin and Estagnol, and heads towards Fort de Brégançon.
The Dolmen de Gaoutabry can be reached via the D88 and then on foot along a 2.3-kilometre route with an elevation difference of 150 metres, blue markings and free parking.
The Dolmen de Gaoutabry is a collective tomb discovered in 1876, used at the end of the Neolithic period, around 2800 BC, and at the beginning of the Copper Age, around 2000 BC.
The Dolmen de Gaoutabry has been listed in the inventory of historic monuments since 1988.
Wildlife and parks
At the Jardin Zoologique Tropical, visitors can see lemurs, squirrel monkeys, African spurred tortoises, meerkats and a mini-farm; a 1,300-metre circular walk also leads through the arboretum.
At the Jardin Zoologique Tropical, animal feedings with the keepers take place at certain times, along with a treasure hunt for children whose theme changes regularly, as well as a picnic area and a play area.
The Jardin des Oliviers is a public park open free of charge all year round and known for its centuries-old olive trees; free open-air concerts take place there every Tuesday in July and August.
History and culture
The Galerie des Mines de l’Argentière preserves remnants of modern-day use as well as uses dating from before the 17th century, which are probably medieval.
