The archaeological site of Olbia is the only fully preserved ground plan of a network of Greek colony fortresses founded by Marseille from the 4th century BC onwards. Olbia also offers a self-guided tour of the archaeological site, which takes 45 to 60 minutes.

In the historic centre, the Parcours des Arts et du Patrimoine takes visitors through Hyères along a signposted route. Along the way, visitors discover the town’s architectural, botanical and urban heritage; the route also provides an opportunity to learn about traditional skills and artistic talents. The permanent exhibition at La Banque, the Museum of Hyères, displays almost 200 works illustrating the development of the landscape. Following several restoration campaigns, Villa Noailles has become an arts centre.

At the end of the Giens Peninsula, Fort du Pradeau is an interpretation centre for Port-Cros National Park. The restored Batterie du Pradeau, also known as Fort du Pradeau, houses the permanent exhibition “Rendre visible l'invisible”.

Nature

The Salins d'Hyères form a wetland complex comprising the Salin des Pesquiers and the Vieux Salins, which are of exceptional biological and landscape importance on the Mediterranean coast. The Vieux Salins cover 350 hectares and stretch east of Hyères for almost 3 kilometres along the coast. Created in 1848, the Salin des Pesquiers retains an almost perfect grid layout and preserved saltworks buildings that recall its industrial past.

At the Espace Nature, visitors can watch birds from the terrace with a nature guide from LPO PACA.

Islands

Porquerolles has 54 kilometres of hiking trails. On Port-Cros, the underwater trail at La Palud is a 40-minute snorkelling route in a protected marine area with six explanatory buoys. The underwater trail at La Palud is freely accessible to independent swimmers with fins, a mask and snorkel.

Regular shuttle boats and water taxis operate all year round from the port of Hyères or from the Tour Fondue to the Hyères offshore islands.
