History
The first written references to La Vache date back to the 13th century. The village of Beauvallon developed around a fortified castle belonging to the Counts of Valentinois. Beauvallon Church was built around 1615.
Château de La Vache was largely destroyed by Protestants from 1560 onwards during the Wars of Religion. Near the lake, a monument erected in 1990 commemorates the centenary of the renaming of Lavache to Beauvallon by decree of 12 November 1890.
Trails and landscape
The Véore flows through Beauvallon’s wet and green valley before flowing into the Rhône at Étoile. In 2021, Étang de Beauvallon covers around 0.6 hectares; a maximum of two fishing rods are permitted.
On the Chemin de Diane, you can travel from the banks of the Véore to the ponds of Beauvallon; along the way, you can discover the old village of Étoile, Notre-Dame Church and a Chappe telegraph tower, a forerunner of modern telecommunications. Along the circular trail “Papy Emile se souvient”, information panels help visitors discover and remember the buildings, places and residents of Beauvallon.
Local life
Beauvallon’s weekly market features around 20 food stalls throughout the year, as well as additional stalls selling plants, clothing, shoes and handicrafts.
