Jarjayes is characterised by the Circuit des Bournas, striking viewpoints and historic sites. The Circuit des Bournas is a 4-hour, 11.5-kilometre circular route starting and ending in Jarjayes. It leads through meadows between Jarjayes and Les Bournas as well as dense forests, and offers numerous panoramas over the Gapençais basin.

Landscape

Jarjayes overlooks the Durance Valley. The Table d'orientation de Jarjayes offers views of the Merdarel and the peaks of the Basse Durance. The P1 Stage 06 route “Jarjayes – Saint-Étienne-le-Laus” also leads through the landscape: At Fontaine de Jarjayes, it runs from the road ascending to the left of Saint-Pierre Church onto a yellow-marked path and onwards along the ridge.

Geographical setting

The Col de la Sentinelle is located on the RD 942 A at an altitude of 981 metres and connects Jarjayes with the city of Gap. During the warmer months, the pass is considered particularly popular with cyclists.

Culture and tradition

The first Saint-Pierre Church was located at the present-day cemetery and already existed in 1118. The Pierre du Costel, also called pierre chaude, is a green stone that was polished smooth by being touched with the hands and is attributed with special powers. According to tradition, the Pierre du Costel, also called pierre chaude, releases after nightfall the warmth it stored during the day.

The fortified village of Tréchatel was built in the 11th century on a hill that ends in a steep rock above the valleys of the Avance and the Durance.

Activities

The Centre Équestre de Gap-Jarjayes offers riding activities for children and adults; participation is possible from the age of three. La Ferme du Col offers educational and entertaining visits with more than 200 animals on the farm.

Regional offerings

La Ferme du Col also offers demonstrations of flour production as well as agricultural products. Le Marché Paysan in Jarjayes offers fruit, vegetables, cheese, fruit juices, jams, honey, wines, liqueurs and fruit tarts.
