Savournon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Between the municipalities of Savournon and Saint-Genis lies the Forêt Domaniale de Beynon. The Gorges du Riou connect the Forêt de Jubéo with the village of Saint-Genis. Rising above Le Bersac and Savournon are the Crêtes de Revuaire, with a summit reaching 1,306 m; from there, views extend across the Channe Valley and surrounding mountains such as Chabre, Arambre and Aujour. The Pic de l'Aigle also rises above the village of Savournon and is known for its panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges.

Nature

The Forêt Domaniale de Beynon is home to notable plant species, including Alisier de Mougeot, Astragale de Montpellier, Astragale vésiculeux and Chiendent pectiné. At Col La Croix, the Oratoire du Col La Croix stands at an altitude of 838 m. From the pass, there are panoramic views of the Massif du Dévoluy, Montagne d'Aujour and Montagne de Saint-Genis.

Hiking and Climbing

The Tour du Pic de l’Aigle hike passes through marl and meadow landscapes as well as rocky terrain. It leads past the ruins of a castle and an old church and through the Mini-Canyon des Eysserennes. The route is an 8.8 km, fairly difficult circular hike that starts and ends at the Hameau de la Buissière, by the community hall in Savournon; the recommended car park is also located there.

The La Passée de l’Aigle hike leads to the ruins of the castles of Savournon, including a 12th-century dungeon on the rock of the Château de l'Aigle. Above the Jubéo car park, Roc Taillefer offers 14 climbing routes, graded from 6a to 7b, on a steep, vertical limestone cliff.

History and Local Character

Archaeological finds show that the Savournon area has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, as well as during the Bronze Age and the Roman era. The Church of Saint Jacques-et-Saint Philippe in the hamlet of Les Barbes dates from the 19th century. The Church of Saint Pierre in Plan du Bourg–Villelongue also dates from the 19th century.

The Oratoire du Col La Croix contains a small statue of the Virgin Mary. Savournon's village festival takes place every year at Whitsun. The Savournon sheep breed was known for its lambs.

Mountain Biking

The Découverte autour de Savournon à VTT (N°13) mountain-biking route passes through a largely open valley and landscape. It mainly follows wide, easy country tracks and offers an insight into the rural surroundings of Savournon. In the late 1980s, the commitment of mountain-biking enthusiasts made Savournon an important starting point for this sport; the paths in the Forêt Domaniale de Beynon near Jubéo were made suitable for cycling as part of this effort.
