Saint-Michel-De-Chaillol: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol is a resort village located at an altitude of over 1,400 m at the foot of Vieux Chaillol. The valley’s distinctive peak rises to over 3,000 m and gives the area a clearly Alpine setting.

Character of the Area

Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol lies in a landscape fully oriented towards the south. The bocage landscape, larch forests and alpine pastures are criss-crossed by hiking trails, including the GR 50. The hiking route «Randonnée des cimes: le pic Queyrel à Chaillol» is also located in Chaillol 1600, 05260 Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol.

Above the village, at an altitude of 1,600 m, is the starting point for the Chaillol 1600 ski lifts.

Culture and History

The Espace culturel de Chaillol bears the designation «Scène conventionnée d’intérêt national – Art en territoire». Le Fayore is Chaillol’s cultural centre. It has an event hall with around 100 seats, equipped for all forms of performing arts.

Le Fayore hosts artists in residence throughout the year. Presentations of their residencies are regularly offered to the residents of Chaillol and the valley.

At the Fournil dit four banal, the oven vault is domed, while the room in front of it has a barrel vault. The Fournil probably dates from the 18th century and is older than the 1837 land register.

Local Products

At the Jardins des Hautes Terres, Anne makes jams from wild berries, including barberries, sea buckthorn and rose hips. She also distils rose water on site from the roses in the garden.
