In the village of Ristolas, at the gateway to the Ristolas-Mont Viso Nature Reserve, you will find L’Arche des Cimes, a centre for interpreting and communicating knowledge about nature. It presents the flora and fauna that have been concentrated in this high valley over millions of years and offers educational visits and themed guided tours.
Near Ristolas are Pic de Maloqueste, a peak, Jilly, a mountain, Pointe de la Lauze, a peak, and Pic de Chabrière, a peak.
Hiking
The Pré Michel route starts and ends at the La Roche Écroulée car park. The Pré Michel nature trail runs along the entrance to the nature reserve and provides an understanding of the fauna and flora at the entrance to the valley.
The Tunnel de la Traversette is a valuable historical passage in the cultural heritage of the Alps and Europe. The classic hike there starts at the La Roche Écroulée car park and involves around 1,000 metres of ascent as well as 16.4 kilometres for the round trip. Hikers can still pass through the tunnel in summer.
Culture
The church of Saint-Marcellin stands in the centre of the present-day village of Ristolas; the village has been rebuilt since 1945. The parish church has been documented since 1260 and is said to have been destroyed by a flood shortly before 1575 and rebuilt immediately afterwards.
Fort Queyras, a fortress, is located in the vicinity of Ristolas. In the wider regional area are Castello di Bagnolo, a castle, Palazzo Roletto, a palace, and Palazzo Ricca di Castelvecchio, also a palace.
