Paths and Routes

The Col des Guérins–Lac Pelleautier stage follows the D 18 through Manteyer and offers views of the Tête de Combe Noire, the Céüse station and the Gapençais Valley.

The municipality of Manteyer has walking, cycling and horse-riding trails, including routes from Marais to Fays and via Calandri or the Combenoire Forest.

Culture and History

The Château de Manteyer dates from the 14th century. The rectangular building has two round towers; a gallery on large round-arched arcades connects it to a similar building.

The Église de Manteyer is a sightseeing destination along the route and houses a painting created around 1640, probably attributed to Antoine Bouvier de Digne.

Below the village, on the banks of the Buëch, lies the Chapelle Saint-Roch de Manteyer. It probably dates from the 16th century. During restoration in the 1960s, a square was created in front of the chapel, allowing an open-air mass to be held on 16 August, the saint’s feast day.

Nature

The Marais de Manteyer lies within the municipalities of Manteyer and La Roche-des-Arnauds. It covers almost 50 hectares of reed beds and wet meadows; most of it is protected by a prefectural biotope protection order.

The Montagne de Céüse is a circular elevated synclinal structure surrounded by a rock wall and extends across elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 metres. It is home to the rare shield grasshopper Polysarcus scutatus.
