La Piarre: Holiday Apartments and Houses

In La Piarre, five washhouses can be discovered from the village to the hamlet of Château. The five washhouses, known as lavoirs in French, are associated with the village’s formerly thriving agriculture and successful silver mining.

Culture

Jean-Louis Pons was born in La Piarre in 1761. During his career, he discovered a total of 37 comets.

Nature

Since the park was founded, La Piarre has been located within the Parc naturel régional des Baronnies provençales. The village also belongs to the Type I ZNIEFF “Rocher d’Agnielle – Crête Saint-Michel – Chabespan”, a continental ecological inventory zone. This ZNIEFF comprises rugged limestone slabs and ridges, dry poor grasslands, and thermophilous scree slopes. Seven animal species of particular conservation concern have been identified there.

Another continental ecological inventory zone is the Type I ZNIEFF “Corniches du Duffre et de la Montagne de l’Aup – Versant sud des montagnes de Dindaret et de Peyre Grosse – Serre Embouc”, to which La Piarre belongs. The ZNIEFF “Corniches du Duffre et de la Montagne de l’Aup” comprises dry meadows, ridge grasslands, stony grasslands, calcareous scree slopes, and small rocky habitats.

Routes

The Serre du Charron circular hike (No. 4) starts and ends at the bridge before the hamlet of Château in La Piarre. Its route reaches a ridge at an altitude of 1,357 metres.

The Le Duffre circular hike (No. 3) starts and ends at the Col d’Arron in La Piarre. It reaches the bare summit of Duffre at an altitude of 1,757 metres.

The Tour du Duffre cycling loop (No. 3) passes through La Piarre and then crosses the Col de Carabès. This spectacular pass, located at an altitude of 1,261 metres, is intended for bicycles, motorcycles, and cars and connects the upper Drôme Valley and Valdrôme with the Buëch Valley.
