Culture and History
The history of the area goes back a long way: a Roman road from Auriol to Gardanne passed through Saint-Savournin. Gallo-Roman tombs were excavated near Collet-Blanc. Traces of Neolithic settlements were also discovered around the Castellas.
The Musée Granet is located in the vicinity of Saint-Savournin. In the wider regional area are the Atelier Cézanne, the Château Borély – Musée des arts décoratifs, de la faïence et de la mode de la Ville de Marseille, and the Abbaye du Mont-Sion.
Landscape
Numerous paths around Saint-Savournin lead to viewpoints, including at Col Saint-Anne. The Tête de l'Hoste summit is located nearby. The Montagne du Baou Traouca mountain is also in the vicinity; the le Ratier summit is located there as well. The Tête du Jacquot summit lies in the area around Saint-Savournin.
Routes and Destinations
The Trail sous le Mont Julien is a 9.1-kilometre circular route starting in Saint-Savournin and offering panoramic views. It can be walked every day of the year. From 1 June to 30 September, access to the forest areas is governed by a prefectural order and may also be regulated by a municipal order.
For cyclists, the Villages de Provence route passes through Provençal villages and along minor country roads. It is considered the easiest circular cycling route in the Pays d'Aubagne destination.
