Saint-Martin-De-Crau: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Nature
The Réserve naturelle nationale des coussouls de Crau is open to the public. Entry requires a €3 permit and a map; both must be collected from the Écomusée de la Crau.
At Étang des Aulnes, dry grasslands, wet and dry meadows, garrigue, ponds and aquatic areas come together. The grounds are accessible to hikers and riders and feature bridleways. Numerous resident and migratory bird species can also be observed there.
Culture
The Écomusée de la Crau is located in the town centre of Saint-Martin-de-Crau, opposite the church. Behind the building, visitors will find a large free car park with a disabled parking space. The Écomusée covers sheep farming with Mérinos d’Arles, the production of Foin de Crau with the AOP and AOC designations, and the management of water resources. The landscape of Crau, agro-pastoral activities and the natural environment are presented through illustrated explanations, photographs and videos.
The Rétromusée was founded in 1987 through the cooperation of the town of Saint-Martin-de-Crau and the Avis family. It is housed in a former 300 m² sheep barn in Saint-Martin-de-Crau. Around forty mannequins in historical costumes bring reconstructed scenes to life.
Events
The Fête du Printemps, also known as the Fête de la transhumance, has taken place in Saint-Martin-de-Crau every year in mid-May since 1986. It symbolises the departure of the shepherds and their sheep for the alpine pastures.
