Nature and Trails

Rognonas is located in an alluvial plain of sand and gravel shaped by recurring flooding of the Durance. The V862 La Durance à vélo cycle route runs from Rognonas to Plan-d’Orgon. The greenway also runs between Plan-d’Orgon and Rognonas along the route of the former Plan-d’Orgon–Rognonas railway line.

The Parc des sports et de loisirs is located on the site of the former Domaine d’Oléon orchard and covers more than 4 hectares. The local landscape also features extensive agricultural production of lettuce, tomatoes, melons and courgettes.

Culture and History

The Rognonas war memorial is located at Place de l’Église and is crowned by a bronze equestrian statue of Joan of Arc on a rearing horse. The depiction of Joan of Arc is considered unique in Provence. The Rognonas arenas date from the 19th century.

The Saint-Pierre church was rebuilt and extended in the 17th and 19th centuries. It stands on the site of a chapel built in the 12th century, which Pope Adrian IV dedicated to Saint-Pierre-ès-Lien. The church has four side chapels, one of which houses a reconstruction of the Grotto of Lourdes.

Festivals and Traditions

The Bon Ange festival in Rognonas takes place on the last weekend of April. The Saint-Éloi festival takes place on the second Sunday in July, and the Saint-Roch festival on the Sunday after 15 August. Rognonas hosts two festivals as part of the regional tradition of the carreto ramado. A reference to a bull run in Rognonas has also been recorded for 1881.

Market and Local Life

The Rognonas market is held at Place du Marché in the town centre. The market stalls sell fruit and vegetables as well as fish and seafood.
