Puyloubier: Holiday apartments and houses

Landscape

Puyloubier is a starting point for hiking trails on Sainte-Victoire. On the Puyloubier–Chapelle Saint-Ser–Pic des Mouches route, there is an orientation panel at Pic des Mouches that helps visitors appreciate the panorama.

Trails

The GR9 long-distance hiking trail passes through Puyloubier. The Italian branch of the Way of St. James, the GR 653 A, also runs through the village.

The Sentier des Vignerons is a three-hour hiking trail with information panels; it begins at the cooperative winery and passes oratories, chapels and vineyards. The trail also includes a 13-kilometre long circular route. It bears the “Tourisme & Handicap” label and enables people with intellectual or hearing impairments to enjoy the landscape and cultural experiences inclusively.

The Sentier botanique de Saint-Ser is a two-hour botanical educational trail created by the Grand Site Sainte-Victoire. The Puyloubier tourist information office organises the annual “Puyloubier Sainte-Victoire” popular hiking day. At Saint-Ser, the rocks of the Ermitage and Vallée de la Tine offer climbing areas for all levels of difficulty.

The Parcours au pied de Sainte-Victoire leads to the Institut des Invalides de la Légion Étrangère and its uniform museum. The Chapelle Ermitage Saint-Ser can be reached on foot from the Saint-Ser car park on the D17 between Saint-Antonin and Puyloubier.

Culture

The Puyloubier branch of the Musée de la Légion étrangère at the Domaine du Capitaine Danjou presents a unique uniform collection from 1831 to 1968. The branch is currently closed for extensive renovations; reopening is scheduled for summer 2027.

History

The restored fortification walls of Puyloubier formed part of the enclosure that protected the medieval castle; they were restored between 2012 and 2015. The Chapelle Saint-Roch dates from the 13th century. The Chapelle Saint-Pancrace stands on the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa.

The Chapelle Ermitage Saint-Ser was consecrated on 5 January 1001 by Amalric, Bishop of Aix-en-Provence. A pilgrimage has taken place at Saint-Ser every Whit Monday since the 14th century. The Chapelle Saint-Pancrace is not normally open to visitors; visits are possible only on request and on an exceptional occasion.

Domaine Saint-Ser produces olive oil with the protected designation of origin AOP Aix-en-Provence.
