Culture and History

Le Castellas was built by Pierre Brémond in 1150. The present-day ruins of Le Castellas consist of two towers, 97-metre-long defensive walls and a vaulted room in the keep.

Coal was extracted in the Valdonne mines; in the region, it is referred to as lignite. A memorial stele for the miners, erected in 2005, can be seen at the Puits Castellane site on the Route de Gréasque. The Château de Valdonne was designated a Monument historique in 1986 because of its architectural richness. It is currently privately owned and not open to visitors.

Nature

The southern part of the municipality of Peypin belongs to the Natura 2000 SAC FR9301603 “Chaîne de l'Etoile- massif du Garlaban”, which includes 12 municipalities. Duvalius auberti is a cave beetle with a very limited local distribution.
