Paths and nature
The historical tour through Paradou includes 15 numbered information panels and three additional points outside the main route. In the Ilon Regional Nature Reserve lies a 176-hectare protected natural area belonging to the municipalities of Paradou and Arles, with wetlands, old forests and Coussouls de Crau.
The “Défends de Sousteyran” hike leads to the Rochers de la Pène and the Tours de Castillon located there, offering views of the southern foothills of the Alpilles. It can be reached by public transport on the ZOU! bus route 702 to the “Les Plouvinons” stop.
Landscape
The Canal de la vallée des Baux has run along these southern foothills of the Alpilles since 3 July 1914. Several canal bridges were built in the municipalities of Maussane-les-Alpilles and Paradou.
History
The Castillon site became a strategic location in the 11th century under the lords of Les Baux, serving to defend their territory and monitor the transport routes.
La Croix des Clapiers is a historic religious heritage site and wayside cross in Paradou; it was erected in 1660. A text from 981 also mentions the Church of Saint-Martin-en-Félaurie in Paradou.
Culture
La Petite Provence du Paradou showcases almost 400 santons in a 500 m² miniature village of Provence. It features temporary exhibitions, workshops for adults and children, and guided tours.
In 2024, Paradou hosted the second edition of the Transhumance, featuring folkloric dances.
