Olives and Local Products
The Moulin Peyre – Maison de l’Olive et de l’Olivier represents the cultural, industrial and agricultural history of Mouriès. The Moulin Saint-Michel offers olive oils, olives, tapenades and regional products; the mill can be visited freely all year round.
Culture and History
The Oppidum des Caisses de Jean-Jean is a 14-hectare archaeological site dating from the 7th century BC. Information panels were installed at the oppidum in 2024 to help visitors understand life in an oppidum.
The present-day Eglise Saint Jacques le Majeur was completed in 1783 and stands on the site of an earlier Saint-Jacques chapel, which was already mentioned in 11th-century archives.
The Arènes municipales de Mouriès have a horseshoe shape designed by the Marquis Folco de Baroncelli; the arena is particularly well suited to the performances of the Cocardiers.
Landscape and Location
Mouriès lies south of the Alpilles massif between Arles and Salon-de-Provence. The municipality is one of the 17 municipalities that make up the limestone massif of the Parc naturel régional des Alpilles.
The circular route “MOURIES - Au cœur d'une oliveraie” follows the former Salon-Arles railway line and showcases the landscapes of agricultural Provence.
Mouriès can be reached by road and via the RN113 national road.
Events
The Fête des Olives Vertes takes place every year on the third weekend of September and marks the beginning of the olive harvest season.
At the Arènes André Blanc, the Club Taurin Mouriésen organises Camargue races and other taurine events throughout the year.
